1.1. Small arms primers shall be separated from materials classified as combustible liquids, flammable liquids, flammable solids and oxidizing materials by a distance of 25 feet by a fire partition having a fire resistive rating of one hour. Small arms primers shall be separated from smokeless powder or other explosives by a minimum distance of 25 feet or by a one-hour fire resistive separation.
Small arms primers shall not be transported or stored except in the original shipping containers approved by the United States Department of Transportation. Commercial stock of small arms primers not in the original shipping containers shall be stored in Hazardous Materials Storage Cabinets pursuant to Section 57.5003.8.7.
In addition to the applicable requirements of Section 57.5606, Sections 57.5606.7.1 through 57.5606.7.4 shall apply.
No person shall discharge any ammunition which contains, in addition to the primer and explosive charge provided for necessary propulsion of the projectile, any explosive, flammable or signaling substance which is capable of igniting any material, except by written permission of the Chief.
Storage of small arms ammunition shall conform to the following provisions:
1. Amounts not to exceed 500 pounds may be stored in any safe and secured location.
2. Amounts in excess of 500 pounds shall be stored in a location and in a manner approved by the Chief.
3. Not more than 1,000 pounds may be stored in a basement equipped with automatic sprinklers.
4. Small arms ammunition in excess of 5,000 pounds shall be stored in a room complying with Section 57.5608.3.2 for fireworks storage.
