Sheriff to Assist County Jail Inmates with Health Insurance Affordability Program Enrollment. |
Pursuant to the provisions of the Penal Code of the state, the Sheriff is hereby authorized to require persons committed to the County Jail under a final judgment of imprisonment rendered in a criminal action or proceeding to perform labor on the public works or ways in the City and County.

The Sheriff's Department is designated as the entity to assist county jail inmates with submitting an application for a health insurance affordability program consistent with federal requirements, as permitted by California Penal Code Section 4011.11(a). For purposes of this Section 13.5, a "health insurance affordability program" shall be defined pursuant to California Penal Code 4011.11(f).

Pursuant to the authority of Section 4025 of the Penal Code of California, the Sheriff is hereby authorized to establish, maintain and operate a store in each of the County Jails maintained by the City and County, and for such purpose to purchase food, confectionery, tobacco users' supplies, postage, writing materials and toilet articles and supplies out of such funds as may be set aside for such purposes; and to sell such goods, articles and supplies to the prisoners confined in the jail.
