6-1-458: LOADING BEYOND FRONT:
The load upon any vehicle operated alone, or the load upon the front vehicle of a combination of vehicles, shall not extend more than three feet (3') beyond the front wheels of such vehicle or the front bumper of such vehicle if it is equipped with such a bumper. (2008 Code § 17-458)

6-1-460: SPILLING LOADS ON HIGHWAYS:
   A.   A vehicle shall not be driven or moved on any highway by any person unless such vehicle is so constructed or loaded or the load securely covered as to prevent any of its load from dropping, sifting, leaking, or otherwise escaping or its load covering from dropping from the vehicle, except that sand may be dropped for the purpose of securing traction, or water or other substance may be sprinkled on a roadway in cleaning or maintaining such roadway.
   B.   The provisions of this section shall not apply to vehicles loaded with hay or stover or the products listed in Iowa Code section 321.466, subsections 4 and 5. (2008 Code § 17-460)

6-1-462: DRAWBARS AND SAFETY CHAINS:
   A.   When one vehicle is towing or pulling another vehicle, the drawbar or other connection shall be of sufficient strength to pull all weight towed thereby and shall be fastened to the frame of the towing vehicle in such manner as to prevent side sway, and, in addition to such principal connection, there shall be a safety chain which shall be so fastened as to be capable of holding the towed vehicle should the principal connection for any reason fail.
   B.   These requirements do not apply in the case of the temporary movement of a disabled vehicle in an emergency situation. (2008 Code § 17-462)

Traffic on the following described bridges shall be limited by weight as indicated. Signs designating the limit shall be erected on each approach of the bridge so limited:
Devils Glen Road over Spencer Creek: Five (5) tons' gross vehicle weight.
Indiana Avenue over Spencer Creek tributary: Straight truck, twenty two (22) tons; truck-tractor with semitrailer, thirty three (33) tons; truck with full trailer, forty (40) tons.
Tanglewood Road over Crow Creek: Single lane bridge, speed limit five (5) miles per hour, 8.5 tons' gross vehicle weight.
