§ 385.13 Spraying and Booth Requirements
   (a)   All spraying with flammable finishes of objects, manufactured articles, motor vehicles, etc., shall be done in an approved spray room or spray booth conforming to the provisions of this section.
   (b)   When spraying is done outside of spray booths, the room or rooms in which such spraying is done shall be separated from the remainder of the building by walls, floors and ceiling construction having a fire resistance rating of not less than three- fourths (3/4) hour, and all openings in such enclosure shall be equipped with self-closing or automatic closing opening protectives having a fire resistance rating of not less than three-fourths (3/4) hour. Floor surfaces in such rooms shall be of incombustible material. Ventilation shall be provided as specified in Section 385.06.
   (c)   Spray booths shall be of metal or other approved incombustible material and shall be of ample size to accommodate the object to be sprayed.
   (d)   Spray booths shall be provided with exhaust systems of sufficient capacity to adequately remove vapors and residues. The average face velocity at the booth shall be not less than one hundred (100) feet per minute, and greater velocities shall be provided, as approved or directed by the Fire Chief or the Commissioner of Air Pollution Control, for continuous heavy spraying using flammable or toxic material. The supply of air entering the room where spray booths are located shall be substantially equivalent to the exhaust capacity provided for such room and shall be from an uncontaminated source. Each spray booth shall have an independent stack or vent, except that not more than three (3) booths, each with less than six (6) square feet face area, may connect to one (1) stack. Exhaust ducts and their installation shall conform to the applicable provisions of Sections 385.06 and 3155.75 to 3155.77.
   (e)   Ventilating fans for spray rooms and booths shall be kept in continuous operation while spraying is being done and shall not be stopped until all flammable vapor has been removed.
   (f)   Pails or receptacles for gravity feed to a spray gun shall not exceed ten (10) gallons capacity, shall be kept covered with tight fitting incombustible covers and shall be securely and substantially supported. Where cables are used for support of gravity feed pails, only wire cables, or ropes containing stranded wire cores, shall be used.
   (g)   Pails or receptacles containing flammable finishes shall be returned to storage cabinets or fire resistive storage rooms or other approved storage places at the close of each day.
   (h)   No portable lamps except those specifically approved for the purpose shall be used inside spray rooms or booths. No lighting installation shall be made so that it is possible for the spray to come into contact with a lamp or with hot surfaces of a lighting fixture.
   (i)   Electric motors shall not be placed within spray rooms or booths, or in exhaust ducts from spray rooms or booths.
