(a) Installations for the application of flammable finishes within finishing rooms, spray booths or rooms, and in dip tanks, and the installation and use of drying ovens and other equipment in connection with the application of flammable finishes shall conform to the applicable provisions of statutes and rules and regulations promulgated by authority of statute, to the applicable rules and regulations of the Commissioner of Air Pollution Control, the provisions of this Fire Prevention Code, and accepted safe practice. When deemed necessary the Board of Building Standards and Building Appeals may promulgate rules or regulations supplementary to this Code to further define accepted safe practice. In the absence of such supplementary rules or regulations, conformity with the requirements and recommendations of NFPA Standard No. 33 entitled “Spray Finishing Using Flammable and Combustible Liquids” and NFPA Standard No. 34 entitled “Dip Tanks Containing Flammable or Combustible Liquids” shall be accepted as conformity with accepted safe practice.
(b) When deemed necessary for safety to life or property the Fire Chief may require compliance with any requirement or recommendation of NFPA Standard No. 33 and 34.
