§ 248.03 PART TIME CLASS B AND VOLUNTEER AUXILIARY POLICE OFFICERS.
   (a)   (1)   Part time Class B and volunteer auxiliary police officers are hereby authorized and established to assist the Police Department in the discharge of its duties. Part time Class B officers shall be paid at an hourly rate as designated by Council.
      (2)   The volunteer auxiliary officers shall be volunteer, unpaid officers or civilians. Volunteer auxiliary officers who are OPOTA certified, and have the approval of the Chief, shall have full arrest powers. (Ord. 1131, passed 6-19-72)
   (b)   There is hereby established a limit of 20 persons to act as part time Class B and volunteer auxiliary police officers. (Ord. 1479, passed 3-17-80)
   (c)   The members shall not be under the age of 21 years for part time Class B officers and shall not be under the age of 18 for voluntary auxiliary officers. Each part time Class B and volunteer auxiliary police officer shall be a high school graduate or shall have passed the G.E.D., shall be bondable and shall have no felony convictions of record. Each applicant for the part time Class B police officers position shall be OPOTA certified. Each applicant will be required to pass a physical examination and agility test. The nature and form of such physicals and agility tests shall be recommended by the Chief of Police, and be approved by resolution or motion of Council. (Ord. 1625-A, passed 11-7-83)
   (d)   The Chief of Police shall be the commanding officer of the part time Class A, part time Class B, and volunteer auxiliary police officers and shall control the assignment, training, stationing and direction of the work to be assigned. Part time Class A police officers, part time Class B police officers and volunteer auxiliary police officers shall have all the police powers as authorized by R.C. § 737.18, but shall perform only such police duties as are assigned by the Chief of Police and act only when dressed in the prescribed uniform. The Chief of Police shall prescribe the time and place such uniform is to be worn. All officers shall obey the chain of command of the Police Department and shall take orders from all regularly appointed members thereof.
   (e)   All services performed by volunteer auxiliary police officers shall be on a voluntary basis and shall be performed solely within the Village.
   (f)   Part time Class A, part time Class B and volunteer auxiliary police officers shall be covered under the Worker's Compensation statutes of the State for injuries occurring as police officer for the Village. (Ord. 1131, passed 6-19-72)
   (g)   Council hereby authorizes the Administrator and Clerk-Treasurer to execute a contract with the Industrial Commission of Ohio, Bureau of Worker's Compensation, to secure coverage for, part time Class A police officers, part time Class B police officers and volunteer auxiliary police officers, and to forward such contract to the State.
   (h)   The Clerk-Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed to prepare a complete roster of part time Class A police officers, part time Class B police officers and volunteer auxiliary police officers, to annually forward a list of all officers as of January 1 of each succeeding year the contract remains in effect, and to forward such information to the appropriate office of the State to obtain coverage under the Worker's Compensation laws of the State.
