All plumbing fixtures, drains, appurtenances and appliances used to receive or discharge liquid wastes or sewage shall be connected properly to the drainage system of the building or premises, in accordance with this chapter. This section shall not be construed to prevent indirect waste systems provided for in Article 8. Existing underground building sewers and drains may be reused if the pipe has been inspected by closed circuit television and approved for reuse by a city plumbing inspector.

Every plumbing fixture, device or appliance requiring or using water for its proper operation shall be directly or indirectly connected to the water supply system in accordance with the provisions of this chapter and any rules and regulations of the department of water management.

Plumbing systems shall not be located in an elevator shaft or in an elevator equipment room. Plumbing systems shall not penetrate an exit enclosure, except as expressly allowed by Chapter 10 of the Chicago Building Code.
Exception: Floor drains, sumps and sump pumps shall be permitted provided they are indirectly connected to the plumbing system.
Plumbing systems shall not be located in electrical rooms except as expressly allowed by the Chicago Electrical Code.
