No person shall ride, and no driver of a motor vehicle shall knowingly permit any person to ride, upon any portion of any vehicle not designed or intended for the use of passengers. This provision shall not apply to any vehicle driven elsewhere than upon a street, or to an employee engaged in the necessary discharge of his or her duty, or to persons riding entirely within or upon any motor vehicle in space intended for any load on such vehicle. No person shall drive a vehicle when it is so loaded, or when there are in the front seat such number of persons, exceeding three (3), as to obstruct the view of the driver to the front or side of the vehicle, or as to interfere with the driver's control over the driving mechanism of the vehicle. No passenger in a vehicle shall ride in such position as to interfere with the driver's view ahead or to the sides, or to interfere with the driver's control over the driving mechanism of the vehicle. (Prior code title 46, art. 15 § 232)
