(a) Calcium carbide and acetylene generated therefrom shall not be used for interior lighting, room or space heating or cooking.
(b) No person shall generate, transport, store or sell acetylene compressed to a pressure greater than fifteen (15) pounds to the square inch except when it is dissolved in acetone or other suitable medium and confined in a cylinder conforming to the specifications of the Interstate Commerce Commission. All such cylinders shall be, or shall have been, tested at the time of manufacture, and no cylinders shall be used which do not meet such test requirements.
(c) No person shall compress and dissolve acetylene so that the solution pressure exceeds two hundred fifty (250) psi at seventy degrees Fahrenheit (70°F), or transport, store or sell dissolved acetylene when the solution pressure exceeds such pressure at seventy degrees Fahrenheit (70°F).
(d) No person shall transfer any portion of the contents of one (1) acetylene cylinder into another acetylene cylinder or mix any other gas with acetylene in an acetylene cylinder.

(a) No calcium carbide shall be stored except in approved metal containers.
(b) Calcium carbide contained within approved metal containers up to an aggregate quantity of six hundred (600) pounds may be stored or kept within one (1) building or fire area on shelves or in cabinets or in other approved manner in safe locations approved by the Fire Chief.
(c) Calcium carbide stored within any building or fire area in excess of an aggregate quantity of six hundred (600) pounds shall be stored or kept in fire- resistive rooms conforming to the provisions of Section 3129.43(c), as modified in subsections (h) and (i) hereof, provided that the maximum quantity stored in any such room shall be five thousand (5,000) pounds, and provided further that such storage room is within a one (1) story building without cellar or basement underneath the same. Such storage room may also be used for storage of acetylene cylinders.
(d) Not to exceed five thousand (5,000) pounds of calcium carbide may also be stored within a fire- resistive generator room located in a one (1) story building without cellar or basement underneath such room, constructed in conformity with the provisions of Section 3129.43(c), as modified in subsections (h) and (i) hereof.
(e) The maximum quantity of calcium carbide stored within one (1) building shall be an aggregate of five thousand (5,000) pounds unless such building is an isolated one (1) story building of Class I, fireproof or Class II, incombustible construction without cellar or basement, located either in the Second Fire District or in the Urban District, used only for the storage of calcium carbide and/or acetylene cylinders and/or the generation of acetylene, and located not less than twenty (20) feet from any other building and from any line on adjoining premises on which buildings may be built.
(f) Exterior openings in walls of rooms used for the storage of calcium carbide in quantities in excess of six hundred (600) pounds shall not be less than twenty (20) feet from any other building and from lines on adjoining premises on which buildings may be built.
(g) All rooms in which calcium carbide is stored shall be dry with walls and roof of thoroughly weather- resistant construction. All such rooms and all rooms where acetylene is generated or stored shall be well- ventilated by means of natural ventilation.
(h) The fire resistance ratings of enclosures of fire-resistive rooms in which calcium carbide is stored or kept under the provisions of subsections (c) or (d) hereof shall be not less than the following:
(1) Walls or partitions: two (2) hours.
(2) Ceilings: one (1) hour.
(3) Interior doors: one and one-half (1-1/2) hours.
(i) The glass or free vent area provided for fire and explosion venting of storage or generator rooms constructed under the provisions of subsections (c), (d) or (e) hereof shall be not less than ten percent (10%) of the combined areas of the enclosing walls.
