§ 385.65 Supplementary Rules and Regulations
   (a)   The fabrication, handling, storage and display for sale of pyroxylin plastic products shall conform to the provisions of this Fire Prevention Code and of these Codified Ordinances, and with accepted good practice. When deemed necessary, the Board of Building Standards and Building Appeals may promulgate rules and regulations supplementary to the provisions of this Code and these Codified Ordinances to establish standards of accepted good practice. In the absence of such supplementary rules and regulations, conformity with NFPA Standard No. 42 entitled “Storage, Handling and Use of Pyroxylin Plastics in Factories” and NFPA Standard No. 43 entitled “Pyroxylin Plastics in Warehouses Wholesale and Retail Stores,” shall be accepted as conformity with accepted good practice.
   (b)   When deemed necessary for safety to life or property, the Fire Chief may require compliance with any requirement or recommendation of NFPA Standard Nos. 42 and 43.

TIRE RETREADING AND REBUILDING PLANTS
§ 385.66 Permit Required
   A permit from the Fire Chief shall be required for all tire retreading or rebuilding plants.

§ 385.67 Classification as High Hazard Occupancy
   Tire retreading or rebuilding plants shall be classified as high hazard occupancy and shall have approved occupancy separations from other occupancies in the building.

§ 385.68 Rooms for Hazardous Processes
   (a)   Buffing machines shall be located in a separate room used for no other purpose. Each buffing machine shall be connected to an approved blower or dust collecting system.
   (b)   Each room in which rubber cement is used or mixed or flammable solvent is applied shall be equipped with natural or mechanical ventilation adequate to prevent fire or health hazards as approved by the Fire Chief and the Commissioner of Air Pollution Control. Each such room shall conform to the applicable provisions of Section 3129.43(c).

§ 385.69 Automatic Fire Extinguishing Equipment
   Approved automatic sprinklers or other approved automatic fire extinguishing equipment shall be provided above every buffing machine, and in each room in which rubber cement is used or mixed or flammable solvent is applied. In buildings which are not equipped throughout with approved automatic sprinklers, sprinklers installed under the provisions of this section may be connected to the domestic water supply with supply piping not less than one (1) inch nominal diameter. Sprinkler systems connected to the domestic water supply shall conform to the provisions of Section 389.32.
