The Council shall contract to insure the City against liability for worker’s compensation and against statutory liability for the costs of hospitalization, nursing, and medical attention for firefighters injured in the performance of their duties as firefighters whether within or outside the corporate limits of the City. All firefighters shall be covered by the contract.

The Council shall contract to insure against liability of the City or members of the department for injuries, death or property damage arising out of and resulting from the performance of departmental duties within or outside the corporate limits of the City.

Fire officials acting under the authority of Chapter 10A, Subchapter V, Part 2 of the Code of Iowa, may issue citations in accordance with Chapter 805 of the Code of Iowa, for violations of Chapter 10A, Subchapter V, Part 2 of the Code of Iowa or a violation of a local fire safety code.

The Ankeny Fire Department shall provide standby staffed fire apparatus or emergency medical services (EMS) response equipment according to a fee schedule established by resolution of the Council, as adopted from time to time. Said fees will be assessed when the Fire Department is requested to stand by at events such as fireworks displays, special events, bonfires or other events where standby equipment and personnel are desired by the sponsoring agency. Requests for other fire equipment will be billed at the engine company rate. Said fees may only be waived with recommendation by the Fire Chief and final approval by the City Manager.
