"Rear yard" means an open space extending the full width of a lot between a building and the rear lot line, unoccupied and unobstructed from the ground upward except as hereinafter specified. The least depth of a rear yard is the shortest distance, measured horizontally, between any part of a building, other than such parts hereinafter excepted, and the rear lot line. Excepted projections such as, but not limited to, architectural features, eaves, gutters, cornices, window sills, bay windows, chimneys, flues, pilasters, lintels and the like, shall not extend or project into a required rear yard more than two feet. Open, unenclosed and uncovered porches, steps, paved terraces and the like may project into a required rear yard a distance not to exceed five (5) feet.

"Side yard" means an open space extending from the front yard to the rear yard between a building and the side lot line unoccupied and unobstructed from the ground upward except as hereinafter specified. The least width of a side yard is the shortest distance, measured horizontally, between any part of a building, other than such parts hereinafter excepted and the nearest side lot line. Excepted projections, such as, but not limited to, architectural features, eaves, gutters, cornices, window sills, bay windows, chimneys, flues, pilasters, lintels and the like, shall not extend or project into a required side yard more than two (2) feet.
