"Off-premises sign" means a sign structure advertising an establishment, merchandise, service or entertainment, which is not sold, produced, manufactured or furnished at the property on which said sign is located, e.g. billboards or outdoor advertising.

"Performance standard" means a criterion established in the interest of protecting the public health and safety for the control of noise, odor, smoke, noxious gases and other objectionable or dangerous elements generated by and inherent in or incidental to land uses.

"Story" means that part of a building, other than a cellar or a mezzanine, included between the upper surface of any floor and the upper surface of the floor next above; or, if there is no floor next above, the ceiling or roof next above such floor. For the purpose of determining the required dimensions of yards and courts, when the average story height of a building exceeds twelve (12) feet, each twelve (12) feet, or fraction thereof, of the total building height shall be considered a separate full story or fractional story respectively, except the first story, which may be fifteen (15) feet high. A mezzanine story shall be deemed a full story where it covers more than fifty (50) percent of the ground story area.
