§ 7.08 NONRESIDENTIAL DISTRICT SIGNS.
   The following   shall be permitted in districts zoned for nonresidential use, including districts zoned OS-1, B-1, B-2, I-1, and M (revised 10/7/1997):
   A.    for residential district uses in a nonresidential district.  for nonconforming residential district uses in a nonresidential district shall be governed by the regulations for residential district uses set forth in § 7.07.
   B.    for nonconforming nonresidential uses.  for nonconforming nonresidential uses in an , commercial, or industrial district (for example, a nonconforming in an industrial district) shall be governed by the regulations that are appropriate for the type of use, as specified in this section.
   C.    .  and other shall be permitted in accordance with § 7.05, subsection C.
   D.   . shall be permitted in , commercial, and industrial districts subject to the following regulations:
      1.   Number. One , that may be an or , shall be permitted per or frontage on each or each tenant’s space in a multi-tenant . Tenants who occupy a corner space in a multi-tenant shall be permitted to have one on each side of the . Where several tenants use a common entrance in a multi-tenant , only one shall be permitted, but the total area should be allocated on an equal basis to all tenants.
      2.   Size. The total area of a shall not exceed one and one-half square feet per linear foot of frontage, but in no case shall the exceed 48 square feet in area. In the case of a multi-tenant or where each tenant has its own entrance and frontage, these size requirements shall apply to each tenant individually, based on the width of each tenant’s unit at the front façade.       3.   Location. One may be located on each side of a that faces a or .
      4.   Vertical dimensions. The maximum vertical dimension of any shall not exceed one-third of the .
      5.   Horizontal dimensions. The maximum horizontal dimension of any wall mounted shall not exceed two-thirds of the width of the .
      6.   Height. The top of a shall not be higher than whatever is lowest:
         a.   The maximum height specified for the district in that the is located.
         b.   The top of the sills at the first level on windows above the first .
         c.   The top of the wall on that the is located.
   E.    .  shall be permitted in , commercial, and industrial districts subject to the following regulations:
      1.   Number. One , that may be an or , shall be permitted per or frontage on each . However, only one shall be permitted on having frontage on more than one if a single can be located such that it is visible from both . In multi-tenant or the total permitted area may be allocated for use by individual tenants. (revised 10/7/1997)
      2.   Size. The total area of a shall not exceed one-half of a square foot per linear foot of frontage, but in no case shall a exceed 48 square feet in area. One up to 72 square feet in size may be permitted for a mixed use or nonresidential , subject to review in accordance with § 29.04. (revised 10/7/1997, 12/1/1998)

      5.   Height. The height of a in any nonresidential district shall not exceed six feet. However, up to 15 feet in height may be permitted by the , subject to review, § 29.03.
   F.    .  shall be permitted for located in commercial districts subject to the following requirements:
      1.   Construction. shall consist of hard incombustible materials. The written message shall be affixed flat to the vertical face of the .
      2.   Vertical clearance. A minimum vertical clearance of ten feet shall be provided beneath any .
      3.   Projection. Limitations imposed by this Ordinance concerning projection of from the face of a wall or shall not apply to , provided that shall comply with the requirements for the district in that they are located.
      4.   Number. One shall be permitted per .
      5.   Size. The total size of a shall not exceed one and one-half square feet per linear foot of frontage.
      6.   Compliance with size requirements for . The area of permanent lettering on a shall be counted in determining compliance with the standards for total area of permitted on the .
   G.   Awnings and canopies.  on awnings and canopies in commercial, , and industrial districts shall be permitted, subject to the following standards:
      1.   Coverage. The total area of the lettering and logo shall not exceed 25% of the total area of the awning or canopy that would be visible in a drawing of a facade on that the awning is located.
      2.   Compliance with size requirements for . The area of on awnings or canopies shall be counted in determining compliance with the standards for total area of permitted on the .
      3.   Projection. Limitations imposed by this Ordinance concerning projection of from the face of a wall or shall not apply to awning and canopy , provided that such shall comply with the requirements for the district in that they are located.
   H.    .  shall be permitted subject to the following standards:
      1.   Number. In addition to other permitted , gasoline filling stations shall be permitted one per frontage.
      2.   Size. The total area dedicated to displaying gasoline prices shall not exceed 20 square feet. The shall be counted in determining compliance with the standards for total area of permitted on the .
      3.   . shall comply with the and height requirements specified for in the district in that the are located.
      4.   Electronic changeable copy.  may incorporate electronic changeable copy as up to 50% of the face, provided that the copy shall not change more than once every ten seconds. Illumination levels from any electronic shall not exceed 0.5 foot-candles at all , measured five feet from the ground; a photometric plan shall be submitted for all such to confirm compliance with this standard.
   I.    .  , as defined in § 7.03, shall be permitted in accordance with § 7.05, subsection A.
   J.    . Temporary and permanent shall be permitted on the inside of in commercial and districts provided that the total combined area of such (including ) shall not exceed one-quarter of the total window area. The area of permanent shall be counted in determining compliance with standards for total area of on the . Temporary shall comply with the requirements in § 7.05, subsection C.
   K.   Time/temperature/stock market . Time, temperature, and stock market shall be permitted in commercial and districts subject to the following conditions:
      1.   Frequency of message change. The message change shall not be more frequent than once every three seconds.
      2.   Size. The area of these types of shall be included within the maximum area permitted on the site.
      3.   Number. One such shall be permitted per frontage.
   L.    . One shall be permitted for each business, subject to the following conditions:
      1.   Vertical clearance. A minimum vertical clearance of eight feet shall be provided between the bottom edge of the and the surface of the sidewalk.
      2.    .  shall be located at least four inches behind the outer edge of the horizontal surface from that they are suspended.
      3.   Orientation. shall be designed to serve pedestrians rather than vehicular traffic.
