5-1-5: POWERS, DUTIES AND CONDUCT OF DEPARTMENT MEMBERS:
Members of the police department shall preserve order, prevent infractions of the law, enforce all the ordinances of the village and arrest violators of the law and such ordinances. Each member of the police department shall at all times conduct himself in a proper and law abiding manner, avoid the use of unnecessary force or argument in the discharge of his duties and obey and observe the rules and regulations of the police department and the lawful orders and directions of the village officials and the chief of police. Every member of the police department shall have the common law and statutory powers of constables for the purpose of serving warrants and when called upon to do so shall appear as a witness in any suit in which the village, the county or the state is a party without fee.
