5-1-1: DEPARTMENT CREATED; MEMBERS:
There is hereby created a police department as an administrative office of the village. The police department shall consist of a chief of police and such number of captains, lieutenants, sergeants, patrol officers, special police officers and watch officers as may be provided from time to time by the village board of trustees. The chief of police and all other members of the department shall be employees of the village. (Ord., 6-12-1950; amd. 1989 Code; 2003 Code)
The chief of police shall be considered a member of the police department. The police department shall consist of such other members as the chief of police shall deem advisable and necessary. In case of emergencies, such as in times of peril, danger, riot or pestilence or apprehension thereof, the village president may appoint special members to the police department to act during any such emergency. 5-1-2: QUALIFICATIONS:
Department members shall be citizens of the United States, of not less than twenty one (21) years of age and, in the judgment of the chief of police, physically and mentally qualified to perform the duties for which employed. (Ord., 6-12-1950)
5-1-3: OATH OF OFFICE; BOND:
Upon entering upon his duties, each member of the police department shall take and subscribe to the oath of office prescribed by law, but no member shall be required to execute a bond unless he is entrusted with property either belonging to or entrusted to the care of the village. (Ord., 6-12-1950)
