In recognition of the unique character, history and tradition of the City of Medina, Ohio, and the desirability of the preservation of such archival records, artifacts and other items indicative of the City's past, there is hereby established the Medina City Archive Commission, hereinafter referred to as the Commission.

City Council, recognizing and appreciating the proud history of this community and desiring to provide opportunity for the preservation and public awareness of that history, hereby declares as an issue of public policy that the retention, acquisition and preservation of items significant to the City's history are matters of civic benefit contributing to the prosperity and welfare of the people. It shall, therefore, be the purpose of the Archive Commission to oversee the retention, acquisition and preservation of items significant to the history of the City of Medina in the manner prescribed below. The Commission may, at its discretion, work with established historical societies but shall maintain its focus on Medina City history.
