It is lawful for any fireman acting under the direction of the chief or another officer in command to enter upon the premises adjacent to or in the vicinity of any building or other property that is on fire, for the purpose of extinguishing such fire, and no person shall hinder, resist or obstruct any fireman in the discharge of his duty as provided in this chapter. The fire chief or such officer as may be in command at any fire scene may prescribe limits within which no person shall be admitted to the area. Such officer in command at any designated location of imminent danger or potential disaster may prescribe limits to the area or areas within which no unauthorized personnel shall be admitted. Exceptions shall be by order of the mayor, his designee and/or by order of the emergency operating center for the city. (Ord. 326 (part), 1984: prior code § 4-2-15)
The city is authorized to enter into agreements or contracts to furnish fire protection outside the municipality or to enter into mutual aid agreements. The members of the fire department are authorized and directed to render firefighting service to communities, organizations, owner or occupants of premises outside the corporate limits of the city. Suitable alarm systems, arrangements or equipment shall be provided for use in turning in an alarm, and for alerting department members to report to duty stations. It is unlawful for any person to maliciously turn in, or cause to be turned in, a false alarm. (Ord. 326 (part), 1984: prior code § 4-2-10)
For the purpose of prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous to life and property from fire and other hazards in an ever changing environment, there are adopted by the city those codes and standards known as the Uniform Building Code, Uniform Fire Code, Life Safety Code, National Electrical Code, National Fire Protection Association Standards, Uniform Mechanical Code, ICBO Plumbing Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Standards for General Industry as amended from time to time, as well as all state and federal requirements pertaining to the inspected occupancy at the time of the inspection. A. Wherever the word "municipality" is used in the fire prevention code, it shall be held to mean the city of Lovington.
B. Wherever the words "chief of the bureau of fire prevention" are used in the fire prevention code, they shall be held to mean the fixe marshal. (Prior code §§ 4-2-22,4-2-23)
Those certain inspection references and standards adopted under Section 2.44.150 are adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at length in this chapter. Amendments, changes and/or reprints as well as new editions of the referenced materials) shall be as approved by the city commission and/or city manager upon recommendation by the fire chief. Maintenance and storage of inspection references shall be as directed by the city commission and/or city manager.
