When a plan check is required by the Building Official, the fees shall be equal to the fee charged to the City by a consultant retained by the City to perform such service. The plan check may be waived, when required, if the plans submitted are certified by an engineer or architect, registered pursuant to the laws of the State, to be in compliance with the requirements of this chapter.
(Code of Iowa, Sec. 103A.19[5])
Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of application shall expire by limitation and plans submitted for checking may thereafter be returned to the applicant or destroyed by the Building Official. The Building Official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180 days upon written request by the applicant showing that circumstances beyond the control of the applicant have prevented action from being taken. In order to renew action on an application after expiration, the applicant shall resubmit plans and pay a new plan check fee.
In the event reinspection is necessary, there shall be paid to the Building Official a reinspection fee in the following amounts:
(Code of Iowa, Sec. 103A.19[5])
1. Foundation Inspection – $25.00
2. Frame Inspection – $25.00
3. Final Inspection – $25.00
4. Mechanical Work – $25.00
5. Plumbing Work – $25.00
6. Electrical Work – $25.00
In the event that an inspection or review is requested and performed pursuant to any of the following items, there shall be paid to the Building Official a fee in the following amounts:
1. Inspections outside of normal business hours (minimum charge of one hour) – $25.00 per hour.
2. Inspections for which no fee is specifically indicated – $20.00 per hour.
3. Additional plan review required by changes, additions, or revisions to approved plans (minimum charge of one-half hour) – $20.00 per hour.
Where work for which a permit is required by this chapter is started or commenced without obtaining a permit, the fees specified for such permit shall be doubled, but the payment of such double fee shall not relieve any persons from fully complying with the requirements of this chapter in the execution of the work, nor from any other penalties prescribed herein.
(Code of Iowa, Sec. 103A.19[5])
All construction or work for which a permit is issued may be subject to inspection by the Building Official, and certain types of construction may have continuous inspection by special inspectors, as specified in Section 155.37.
(Code of Iowa, Sec. 103A.19[1])
Work requiring a permit shall not be commenced until the permit holder or agent shall have posted an inspection record card in a conspicuous place on the front premises and in such position as to allow the Building Official conveniently to make the required entries thereon regarding inspection of the work. This card shall be maintained in such position by the permit holder until the certificate of occupancy or satisfactory completion has been issued.
