Any excavation into a Town Street or public place shall not be allowed to remain open for more than three (3) days, unless an extension of time is granted by the Public Works Director for unusual circumstances encountered in the performance of work. All excavations into Town Streets or public places shall be backfilled immediately upon completion of the work and shall be surfaced within fourteen (14) days of the completion of the work. During times when permanent surfacing materials are unavailable, a temporary surface will be permitted; however, the temporary surface must be removed and replaced by a permanent surface within six (6) months of the time of placement. The aforesaid bond and maintenance responsibility will then continue throughout the period the temporary surface is in place and extend for one (1) year from the completion date of the permanent surface.
