Sec. 4-200 Licensing of Handguns - Procedures and Fees.
   a.   Pursuant to Indiana Code, § 35-47-2-1, et seq., more particularly Indiana Code, § 35-4-2-1, a person desiring a license to carry a handgun shall apply to the Chief of Police or Acting Chief of Police of the Town of Schererville, providing the applicant is a resident of the Town of Schererville.

   b.   The Police Department by and through its Chief or Acting Chief or designee shall make available the forms recommended by the Indiana State Police or other designated proper agency, and shall assist the applicant in properly filling out said forms and providing other required information and data.

   c.   The Police Department, Chief or Acting Chief, or other designee does not have discretion to grant or deny licenses or applications except as provided by State Law. The Police Department, Chief or Acting Chief, or their designee then shall forward the application to the Indiana State Police or other proper agency as a ministerial function only. The Police Department, Police Chief, Acting Police Chief, or their designee or the Town of Schererville does not have any discretion in the issuing of such licenses, and does not warrant or take any responsibility for any of the information contained in or on any application.

   d.   The license fee the Police Department shall charge for processing a handgun application shall be the same as provided under I.C. § 35-47-2-3, as amended from time to time.

   e.   The administrative fee provided in I.C. § 35-47-2-3 shall be placed in an account created by and maintained by the Clerk-Treasurer for law enforcement training expenses for the Schererville Police Department. Said account to be maintained with accepted standards of accounting recommended by the Indiana State Board of Accounts. The disbursement of the funds therefrom shall be in the discretion of the Superintendent of Police, Chief of Police, Acting Chief of Police or whoever is at any time the highest ranking person designated as department head of the Police Department.
