Sec. 4-12 Rules and Regulations.
   a.   Minimum Age of Operator  5 - A motorized bicycle shall not be operated by any person under the age of fifteen (15) years of age, without an identification card issued pursuant to Indiana Code, § 9-24-16-1, et seq. or a valid driver's license issued pursuant to Indiana Code, § 9-13-2, et seq. Each operator shall carry on his or her person sufficient evidence of his or her age.
   b.   Obedience to Traffic Control Devices - Operators of motorized bicycles shall obey the direction and instruction of all traffic control devices, signals, signs, or other control devices applicable to vehicles, as defined in and subject to the rules and regulations of the Indiana Code.
   c.   Obedience to Traffic Control Signs - Whenever authorized signs are erected, including, but not limited to stop, yield, no right or left or "U" turns, no person operating a motorized bicycle shall disobey the purpose and direction of any such sign, except where such operator dismounts from the motorized bicycle and obeys the regulation as defined in the Indiana Code applicable to pedestrians.
   d.   Use of Seats; Maximum Capacity - A person operating a motorized bicycle shall not drive it other than upon the permanent and regular seat attached thereto, nor shall the operator permit a passenger. If a passenger is allowed, the motorized vehicle shall be equipped with fixed foot pegs or pedals for the use of said passenger.
   e.   Speed - No person shall operate a motorized bicycle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions then existing. The operator of a motorized bicycle shall not exceed the speed of twenty-five (25) miler per hour or the posted speed limit, whichever is less.
   f.   Driving on the Right; Riding Abreast Restricted - Every person operating a motorized bicycle shall drive as near to the right hand side of the roadway as is possible, and in single file when passing other vehicles, parked or moving.
   g.   Merging from Alley or Driveway - The operator of a motorized bicycle emerging from an alley, driveway, or building shall, upon approaching a sidewalk, yield the right-of-way to all pedestrians approaching on said sidewalk or sidewalk area and upon entering a roadway, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles on the roadway close enough to constitute a hazard.
   h.   Clinging to Vehicles - No person operating a motorized bicycle shall attach the same or himself to any vehicle upon a public highway, street, alley, public way, park way or public path.
   i.   Carrying Articles - No person operating a motorized bicycle shall carry any package, bundle, or article which prevents the operator from keeping both hands upon the handlebars.
   j.   Trick Riding - Trick riding is prohibited. The hands of the operator of a motorized vehicle shall be on the handlebars at all times, except while in the act of signaling.
   k.   Curving Side to Side - No operator of a motorized bicycle shall cause or permit a motorized bicycle to curve side to side.
   1.   Parking - No person shall park a motorized bicycle in such a manner as to interfere with the normal flow of pedestrian traffic, vehicular parking or vehicular flow of traffic.
   m.   Operation on Sidewalk Prohibited - The operation of motorized bicycles upon sidewalks is expressly prohibited.
   n.   Lights - Every motorized bicycle, operated on a public highway, street, alley, public way or public path, shall be equipped with a lamp on the front exhibiting a white light visible from a distance of at least five hundred feet (500') to the front and with a lamp on the rear exhibiting a red tight visible from a distance of five hundred feet (500') to the rear. In lieu of such rear lighted red lamp on motorized bicycles, a red reflector glass button no less than one and one-half inches (1½") in diameter, or red reflecting tape of not less than four square inches (4") may be mounted securely on the rear mudguard, or lacing a mudguard on the rear of the saddle. The tights are to be on at all times the motorized bicycle is in use.
   o.   Audible Warning Devices - No person shall ride a motorized bicycle unless it is equipped with horn or other device capable of giving a signal audible for a distance of one hundred feet (100') or more.
   p.   Brakes - Every motorized bicycle shall be equipped with a brake which will enable the operator to make the braked wheels skid on dry, level, or clean pavement.
   q.   Turning Signals - Every person operating a motorized bicycle shall employ the use of hand signals in the manner provided by state law for turning or changing lanes if such vehicle is not equipped with a lighted turn signal device.
   r.   Protective Headgear - A person who operates a motorized bicycle within the Town of Schererville shall at all times wear protective headgear meeting the minimum standards set by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles or a helmet that meets the standards established by the United States Department of Transportation under 4a CFR 571-218 and in effect as of January 1,1979, or as amended or replaced thereafter.
   s.   Protective Glasses, Goggles, or a Transparent Face Shield - A person who operates a motorized bicycle within the Town of Schererville shall at all times wear protective glasses, goggles, or transparent face shield.
   t.   Motorized Bicycle Traffic Prohibited on Highways U.S. 30 and U.S. 41 Within the Town of Schererville - The operation of a motorized bicycle is expressly prohibited on the roadway or shoulder areas of Highways U.S. 30 or U.S. 41 within the Town of Schererville.
