a. The Town of Schererville adopts the South Shore Clean Cities program, whose principal mission is to facilitate the creation of a sustained alternative transportation fueled industry in northwest Indiana through the introduction of alternatively fueled vehicles in the region's fleet and a refueling and service infrastructure to support their use.
b. In adopting the South Shore Clean Cities program:
1. The Town of Schererville will appoint an official of this local government entity with responsibilities for vehicle procurement to represent it on the South Shore Clean Cities public/private partnership who along with other members will carry out the partnership's mission and goals; and
2. In furtherance of South Shore Clean Cities mission and goals, the Town of Schererville will:
a. give consideration to purchasing alternatively fueled vehicles for its fleet that meet performance specifications, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency emissions requirements, and are competitively priced; and
b. give consideration to joining other local governments in alternatively fueled vehicle purchase program, thereby benefitting from the savings realized from such high volume purchases.
3. The Town of Schererville will urge private sector fleet owners, who do business with this local government entity and who are based and/or conduct business within the Town of Schererville area of jurisdiction, to become a member in the South Shore Clean Cities public/private partnership.
