Sec. 2-105 Leave of Absence.
   Defined as a leave period of extended duration without pay after exhaustion of all accrued leave time.
   a. Leave of absence shall be requested by affected officer through the office of the Chief of Police.
      1.   The Chief of Police's recommendation will be submitted to the Schererville Board of Safety which will submit its recommendation to the Town Council for final decision.
      2.   Requests must include specific leave date, duration and specific reasons for leave of absence application.
   b.   Leave of absence will not be granted except on a without pay basis unless otherwise defined in this policy or authorized by the Town Council.
   c.   During approved leaves of absence, employees shall be 100% responsible for and must pay the full health insurance premium (employee contribution and town contribution) to remain covered by the Town health insurance policy.
   d.   During approved leaves of absence, employees shall not continue to earn either vacation time or sick/injury time.
