Sec. 2-98 Vacation.
   a.   An officer becomes eligible for vacation after completing one (1) year of service. The vacation year is the calendar year. An officer's entitlement, during the calendar year of their one (1) year anniversary will be in accordance with the following schedule:

         February            10 Days Vacation
         March               9 Days Vacation
         April               8 Days Vacation
         May               7 Days Vacation
         June               6 Days Vacation
         Month of Hire:         Entitled to:
         July               5 Days Vacation
         August               4 Days Vacation
         September            3 Days Vacation
         October            2 Days Vacation
         November            1 Day Vacation
         December            1 Day Vacation
   b.   Officers shall receive vacation benefits based upon the following schedule:
         Completed Years of Service:   Entitled:
         1 Year completed         10 Duty Days
         5 Years completed         15 Duty Days
         10 Years completed         20 Duty Days
      Thereafter, officers shall receive 20 duty days plus one (1) additional duty day for each year completed beyond the (10) years of service.
      1.   Officers shall not attain in excess of twenty-five (25) duty days of vacation regardless of years of service.
         (a)   Vacation time shall not be accrued from year to year.
      2.   Officers shall request and take accumulated vacation time during their eligible period or have that time arbitrarily scheduled by proper authority.
      3.   Effective January 1, 2013 all compensatory time and vacation time may be taken on an hourly basis. However, all Holidays or incentive days must be taken in one-half (½) days or full days.
      4.   Vacation time granted should be limited to 7 days for officers working 12 hour shifts and 10 days for officers working 8 hour shifts. Exceptions may be granted when work schedule and manpower allocation allows.
      5.   Vacation time requests will be authorized based on shift seniority.
      6.   Sickness/injury leave shall not be granted during vacation time.
      7.   Upon termination of employment with the Town or upon the death of an officer, the officer shall be eligible to receive pay for any unused vacation time in the year of termination plus vacation accrued for the following calendar year on a prorated basis. The prorated payment will be the rate of one-twelfth of the full vacation allotment for each full month worked in the calendar year up to the date of termination. Such prorated application does not apply to an officer who has been employed for a period of less than one (1) year.
