9-1-1: FIRE DISTRICT:
The entire city is declared to be a fire district, including fire zones one, two and three, and the boundaries shall be illustrated on an official map to be maintained by the city building official and on file with the fire marshal. The boundaries of the fire districts shall be continued as previously established and depicted upon the official maps of the city maintained for such purpose. Whenever in any code or ordinance adopted by and in effect in the city the term "jurisdiction" shall be used, said term shall mean the jurisdictional limits of the city of Mitchell, South Dakota. 9-1-2: FIRE MARSHAL:
There shall be, within the fire department of the city department of fire and EMS, an employee classification of fire marshal, who shall be subject to the supervision in conformance with the city employee classification within the department of fire and EMS. Whenever in any code adopted by the city, or in any ordinance adopted and in effect in the city there shall be reference to the term fire official, or other term of like meaning, such term shall be construed to mean fire marshal as provided in this section. 9-1-3: FIRE CODE ADOPTED:
   A.   Code Adopted: The 2012 edition of the international fire code (sometimes referred to as the "fire code"), as promulgated and published by the International Code Council, Inc., together with the appendixes thereto A and B, is hereby adopted, and by this reference incorporated herein to the same extent as if set out herein in full. Wherever in the fire code reference shall be made to the NFPA code, such reference shall mean the then prevailing version of the life safety code, as adopted by section 9-1-4 of this chapter.
   B.   Application Exclusions: No part or provision of the said 2012 edition of said code shall be interpreted or applied in a manner which would require that any fire sprinkler system be installed in a single-family dwelling. No provision in the code adopted by this chapter shall apply to mobile or manufactured homes as defined in South Dakota Codified Law chapter 32-7A which are constructed in compliance with the applicable prevailing standards of the United States department of housing and urban development at the time of construction; and no provision in the code adopted by this chapter or provision of any other ordinance shall apply to any specialty resort or vacation home establishments as defined in South Dakota Codified Law chapter 34-18 that is constructed in compliance with the requirements of group R-3 of the 2012 edition of the international building code.
