The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to poles used exclusively for fire alarm boxes or similar municipal equipment installed under the supervision and to the satisfaction of the public works director, or to the poles and overhead wires and associated overhead structures used exclusively for street lighting furnished under contract with the city or other duly constituted public agency authorized to provide such street lighting within the city.
