Nonprivate swimming pools shall not be constructed in any RS district designated under the Chicago Zoning Ordinance. Outdoor nonprivate swimming pools shall not be located so that any portion of the water is less than 10 feet (3048 mm) from an abutting property line. Pumps, filters and pool water disinfection equipment installations shall be located at a distance not less than 10 feet (3048 mm) from an abutting property line.

It shall be unlawful to proceed with the construction, installation, enlargement or alteration of any nonprivate swimming pool or bather preparation facilities without a building permit as provided in Chapter 14A-4 of the Municipal Code.

Nonprivate swimming pools shall be constructed in accordance with Sections 18-29-1202.5.1 through 18-29-1202.5.5.

Pools shall be designed and constructed to only use water from the Chicago Water Works system. The water supply provided shall be capable of providing enough water to raise the water level in the basin at least 1 inch (25.4 mm) in three hours.

Recirculation system pipe and fittings shall be of the materials indicated in Section 18-29-605 for water service pipe or water distribution pipe, or Schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic pipe complying with ASTM D1785, ASTM D2241, ASTM D2672 or CSA B137.3 and fittings complying with ASTM D2464, ASTM D2466, ASTM D2467, CSA B137.2 or CSA B137.3.
