§ 156.01 DEFINITIONS.

   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.

   DISH. That part of a satellite receiving antenna characteristically shaped like a dish or parabola.

   DISH-TYPE SATELLITE ANTENNAS. Also referred to as earth stations or T.V.R.O. systems (television receive only). DISH-TYPE SATELLITE ANTENNAS shall mean one or a combination of two or more of the following:

      (1)   A signal-receiving device (dish antenna, dish-type antenna, or fixed-screen reflective), the purpose of which is to receive electromagnetic signals from satellite in earth orbit or other extraterrestrial sources.

      (2)   A low-noise amplifier (LNA) situated at the focal point of the receiving component and the purpose of which is to amplify, convert, or transfer electromagnetic signals.

      (3)   Control or coaxial cables, the purpose of which is to carry or transport signals to and from a receiver.

   GROUNDING ROD. A metal rod driven directly into the earth a minimum depth of three feet to serve as an electrical conductor through which electrical current or atmospheric discharges may pass and dissipate.

   RECEIVER. The combination of a television set and associated T.V.R.O. tuner.

§ 156.02 PERMIT REQUIRED.

   No person, firm, partnership, corporation, trust, or other legal entity shall construct an earth station without a permit, nor shall construction commence before a permit is issued in accordance with § 156.03.
