There is hereby created a School Safety Coordinating Committee to be composed of eleven members for the purpose of studying the protective needs of school crossings and any other matters pertaining to the safety of school children while going to or coming from school.

The members of such Committee shall be appointed by the Mayor with the consent of Council. Six members shall be appointed for two-year terms and five members for three-year terms. Upon the expiration of a member's term, his successor shall be appointed for a term of five years. Vacancies shall be filled by appointment by the Mayor for the unexpired term. Members shall serve until their successors are appointed.

The membership of the Committee shall consist of one representative from each of the following:
Toledo public school system;
Toledo parochial school system;
Township school system;
Toledo Division of Police;
Toledo Division of Fire;
Toledo Auto Club;
Toledo Municipal Court;
Toledo Area Parent-Teacher Association;
Toledo Division of Transportation;
News media; and the
Toledo Lucas County Safety Council.

The Committee shall elect one of its members as chairman and the representative of the Toledo Lucas County Safety Council shall be designated as secretary of the Committee. Meetings shall be held at regularly stated times to be determined by the Committee provided, however, that special meetings may be held at the call of the chairman. The Committee shall adopt its own rules of procedure and shall keep a record of its proceedings. It shall be the duty of all officers and employees of the City and especially members of the Police Division to assist the Committee.
