The following may exceed the prescribed height limit provided they are required for a use permitted in the district in which they are erected or constructed: chimneys, cooling towers, condensers, elevator bulkheads, belfries, stacks, ornamental towers, monuments, cupolas, domes, spires, stair towers, and other necessary mechanical appurtenances and their protective housing but not to include equipment penthouse that constitutes more than thirty percent (30%) of the roof area.
