§ 9-4-2-2 MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS.
   (A)   The Chief of Police shall establish the requirements to be met by persons to qualify to become members of the Corps. Such requirements shall include but need not be limited to physical, mental, aptitude, personality inventory and character standards and the mandatory training of such persons for a minimum of 120 hours, in all fields of police work and activity in accordance with New Mexico Peace Officer standards or, in the discretion of the Chief, better or higher standards. It shall be the duty of the Chief to provide such training for such persons and also any further training for members which he may deem to be necessary or desirable.
   (B)   The Chief of Police shall determine physical fitness of persons to become members and of members to continue as such.
   (C)   Whenever all of the requirements to qualify to become a member shall have been met by any person and he shall have certified in writing that he has read the provisions of §§ 9-4-2-1 et seq., he may be appointed and sworn in as a member by the Chief of Police.
   (D)   The Chief may terminate any member or trainee at any time and any member or trainee may resign as such at any time by written notification thereof to the Chief. Any member who shall cease to be such shall surrender, at the time he shall cease to be such, all property of the city which shall have been issued to him pursuant to the provisions of §§ 9-4-2-1 et seq. or otherwise.
