SPECIAL STOPS
SEC. 256.   STOPPING AT STOP SIGNS.
256.   STOPPING AT STOP SIGNS.Stop signs shall be erected at entrances to through streets and at one or more entrances to stop intersections. Every driver of a vehicle shall stop at such sign or at a clearly marked stop line before entering an intersection, except when directed to proceed by a peace officer or traffic-control signal.
SEC. 257.   STOP BEFORE CROSSING SIDEWALK--RIGHT OF WAY.
257.   STOP BEFORE CROSSING SIDEWALK--RIGHT OF WAY.The driver of a vehicle emerging from a private roadway, alley, driveway, or building shall stop such vehicle immediately prior to driving onto the sidewalk area and thereafter the driver shall proceed into the sidewalk area only when the driver can do so without danger to pedestrian traffic and the driver shall yield the right of way to any vehicular traffic on the street into which the driver's vehicle is entering.
The driver of a vehicle about to enter or cross a highway from a private road or driveway shall stop such vehicle immediately prior to driving on said highway and shall yield the right of way to all vehicles approaching on said highway.

258.   STOP AT CERTAIN RAILROAD CROSSINGS.When stop signs are erected at grade crossings of railroads, the driver of any vehicle shall stop in accordance with Section 259 within fifty feet but not less than ten feet from the nearest track of such grade crossing and shall proceed only upon exercising due care. Grade crossings where stops are required are listed in Section 547 of this ordinance. [Ref. Iowa Code §321.342]

259.   OBEDIENCE TO SIGNAL OF TRAIN.Whenever any person driving a vehicle approaches a railroad grade crossing and warning is given by automatic signal or crossing gates or a flagman or otherwise of the immediate approach of a train, the driver of such vehicle shall stop within fifty feet but not less than ten feet from the nearest track of such railroad and shall not proceed until the driver can do so safely. The driver of a vehicle shall stop and remain standing and not traverse such a grade crossing when a crossing gate is lowered or when a human flagman gives or continues to give a signal of the approach or passage of a train. 260.   BUSES TO STOP AT CURB.Buses shall draw up to the curb at the near side of street intersections when loading or unloading passengers excepting at places where spaces are otherwise designated.
