In the construction of this Code, and of all ordinances, the following terms and words are hereby defined, unless such definition would be inconsistent with the manifest intent of the ordinances, the legislative intent, or unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, as follows:
Board of Commissioners shall mean the legislative body of the city. If the term "city council," "council," "common council," "city commission," or any other like or similar term is used in reference to the governing legislative body of the city, the same shall be construed to mean the "board of commissioners".
City, or this city, or the city shall be construed as if the words of Danville followed it, and shall extend to and include its several officers and employees.
Code shall mean the "Code of Ordinances, of Danville, Kentucky," as cited in section 1-1.
Computation of time. Whenever a notice is required to be given or an act to be done, the rules for computation of time as set forth in KRS 446.030 shall apply.
Corporate limits or city limits shall mean the legal boundaries of the city.
County shall mean the County of Boyle.
Gender. A word importing the masculine gender only shall extend and be applied to females and to firms, partnerships and corporations as well as to males.

Joint authority. Words giving authority to three (3) or more public officers or other persons shall be construed as giving such authority to a majority of such officers or other persons.

KRS shall refer to the Kentucky Revised Statutes, as amended.
May. The word "may" is permissive.

Misdemeanor. An offense for which the criminal fine can not exceed the amount set forth in KRS 534.040(2)(a), or a term of imprisonment not to exceed the periods set forth in KRS 532.090(1) or both.

Month. The word "month" means calendar month.

Name of officer, employee, department, board, commission or other city agency. Whenever any provision of this Code provides for the performance of a duty or creation of powers with respect to a particular officer, employee, department, board, commission or other city agency, such provision shall also apply to any duly authorized subordinate or representative and also to any other officer, employee, department, board, commission or other city agency who succeeds to the powers or duties of such officer, employee, department, board, commission or other city agency by reason of a change in the law or ordinance, even though such Code provision has not been specifically amended.
Number. A word importing the singular number only may extend and be applied to several persons or things as well as to one (1) person or thing, and a word importing the plural number only may extend and be applied to one (1) person or thing as well as to several persons or things.
Oath includes affirmation in all cases in which an affirmation may be substituted for an oath.

Ordinance. An official act of a city legislative body, which is a regulation of a general and permanent nature and enforceable as a local law or is an appropriation of money.

Peace Officer. Includes sheriffs, constables granted police powers, coroners, jailers, metropolitan and urban- county government correctional officers, marshals, policemen, and other persons with similar authority to make arrests.

Person. May extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, societies, communities, the public generally, individuals, partnerships, registered limited liability partnerships, joint stock companies, and limited liability companies.

Resolution. An expression of the opinion, will or policy of the legislative body on some matter of ministerial business which has come before the body. (While an ordinance, and to a large extent a municipal order, involves a distinctly legislative act, a resolution is a less formal mechanism for dealing with matters of a special or temporary character.)
Shall shall be considered mandatory and not directory.

State shall be construed to mean the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Sworn includes affirmed in all cases in which an affirmation may be substituted for an oath.
