Sec. 2-130. Duties and purpose.
   The MLK Committee shall perform the following duties:
   (1)   The committee shall organize an annual community wide celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in the City of Danville to promote the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
   (2)   The committee shall foster a spirit of appreciation and understanding of diversity, equality and justice for all citizens.
   (3)   The committee shall strive to be inclusive of all community agencies in order to coordinate the annual celebration in a cooperative manner that includes all interested parties.
   (4)   The committee shall seek to plan activities and programs that benefit, encourage and improve the relationships of all members of our community.
   (5)   The committee may solicit contributions and obtain grants appropriate to the goals of the committee, but all finances shall be handled and directed by the City of Danville finance department.
   (6)   The committee may adopt bylaws, rules and regulations as are necessary to carry out it duties and purposes as set forth in this article.
   (7)   The committee may establish subcommittees, headed by committee members, which may include interested members of the public, for the purposes of carrying out the duties set forth herein.
   (8)   The committee may perform any other act necessary or appropriate to carry out the purpose of this section.
