Council hereby establishes the office of Street Commissioner of the Village. The Street Commissioner shall be in charge of the Service Department under the supervision of the Mayor, and shall be responsible for collection and disposal of garbage, rubbish or other refuse; care, repair and maintenance of streets, sewers, water mains, sidewalks, parks, municipal buildings, property and other equipment. In addition thereto, he shall perform such other duties as the Mayor and Council may from time to time direct.

(a) The work week for all members of the Service Department, except Street Commissioner, shall be forty (40) hours. When authorized by the Mayor or Street Commissioner, work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and any work on Saturdays or Sundays shall be compensated at one and one-half (1 ½) times the employee’s hourly rate. Hours worked include vacation leave, holiday leave and bereavement leave but do not include sick leave.
(b) No workday shall exceed sixteen (16) hours.
(c) When authorized by the Mayor or the Street Commissioner, any work on scheduled holidays, as provided in Section 149.01, shall be compensated at two (2) times the employee’s hourly rate. (Ord. 4095. Passed 2-17-21.)
(d) Whenever a member of the Service Department (excluding the Director) is called into service outside of the normal work hours (7:00 am - 3:00 pm), that member shall have the option of receiving three (3) hours of overtime or the equivalent amount of compensatory time. (e) Whenever a member of the Service Department (excluding the Director) has worked a regular work shift during a work week and has worked between the hours of midnight and 7:00 am that same day, that member shall have the ability to immediately use banked compensatory time.
