All newly elected officers of the village shall be inaugurated at the first regular meeting or the first special meeting, whichever may be first, of the village board of trustees in the month of May following the election of the officers. (1976 Code § 12.004)
A. Election: The mayor shall be elected for a four (4) year term, and shall serve until his successor is elected and qualified, as is provided by statute 1 . (1976 Code § 30.001)
B. Bond: Before entering upon the duties of his office, the mayor shall execute a bond in such amount and with such sureties as may be required by statute 2 conditioned upon the faithful performance of the duties of his office. (1976 Code § 30.006)
C. Compensation: The compensation and salary of the mayor is fixed and established by legislative authority. (1976 Code § 30.007)
D. Duties: The mayor shall be the chief executive officer of the village, and shall perform all such duties as may be required of him by statute or ordinance. He shall have supervision over all of the executive officers of the village, and shall have the power and authority to inspect all books and records pertaining to village affairs and kept by any officer of the village at any reasonable time. (1976 Code § 30.002)
1. Appointment Of Officers: Subject to the approval of the village board of trustees, the mayor shall appoint all officers of the village whose election or appointment is not otherwise provided for. Any vacancies occurring in an appointive office shall be filled in the same manner. (1976 Code § 30.003)
2. Designate Officers' Duties: Whenever there is a dispute as to the respective duties or powers of any appointed officer of the village, this dispute shall be settled by the mayor after consultation with the village attorney; and the mayor shall have the power to delegate to any appointed officer any duty which is to be performed when no specific officer has been directed to perform that duty. (1976 Code § 30.004)
3. Formal Occasions: The mayor shall act for and on behalf of the village on formal occasions and receptions; but in his absence or inability to attend any such occasion, the village board may select any other village officer to so act. (1976 Code § 30.005)
4. Meetings; Fine For Missing: The mayor, being absent from any meeting without good and sufficient cause, may be fined five dollars ($5.00) on majority vote of the village board. (1976 Code § 30.008)
