(A) For the purposes of this section only, each member of the Corps shall be an employee of the city only while serving any assigned shift as a member or while receiving further training as such, and any trainee shall be an employee of the city only while receiving any required training to qualify to become a member of the Corps.
(B) If any such member or any such trainee should suffer or sustain any illness or injury proximately caused by, arising out of, and in the course of, his service or training while an employee of the city, as hereinabove limited, he shall be entitled to all of those Workers' Compensation benefits that he would be entitled to if he were a regular employee of the city provided that:
(1) While receiving the required training, a trainee will be entitled to those benefits he would be entitled to if he were a regular Police Cadet receiving a monthly salary as such.
(2) After he has been appointed and sworn in as a member, a member will be entitled to those benefits he would be entitled to if he were a regular patrolman second class, receiving a salary as such.
(C) If any such member or any such trainee should die as a result of any illness or injury proximately caused by, arising out of, and in the course of, his service or training while an employee of the city, as hereinabove limited, those persons who, if the deceased member had been a regular patrolman second class receiving a salary as such or if the deceased trainee had been a Police Cadet receiving a salary as such, would be entitled to any Workers' Compensation benefits, pursuant to the provisions of the Workmen's Compensation Act of the State of New Mexico, shall be entitled but only upon the conditions provided therefor in said Act to the same such benefits, no more or no less.
