(A) Streets. When signs are erected prohibiting either commercial vehicles or vehicles in excess of a specified weight from the use of a street, no person shall operate a commercial vehicle or vehicle in excess of the gross weight specified on said sign at any time upon any of the streets or parts of streets so marked; except that such vehicles may be operated thereon for the purpose of delivering or picking up materials or merchandise, and then only by entering such streets at the intersection nearest the destination of the vehicle and proceeding thereon no farther than the nearest intersection thereafter; provided further, that the provisions of this section shall not apply to vehicles owned or officially used by federal agencies, the state, the county, the city or any other subdivision of government or agencies thereof.
(B) Bridges. When signs are erected by which a driver of a vehicle when approaching a bridge is given notice that vehicles in excess of a specified weight are prohibited the use of the bridge, no person shall drive any vehicle in excess of the weight specified on said sign upon the bridge so marked by sign.
