The Chief of the Bernalillo County Detention Center (Chief of Corrections/ Detention) may charge at the time a medical health service is provided to each inmate who is committed to the Bernalillo County Detention Center (BCDC) by a competent authority, a reasonable fee or co-payment of not more than five dollars for each inmate initiated non-emergency medical and mental health care service and for each medical and mental health care service for injuries the inmate inflicts upon himself or another, or for injuries incurred by an inmate during voluntary recreational activities. Medical and mental health care services include visits to BCDC or non-BCDC physicians, dentist, optometrists and mental health care providers and providing medical supplies, including but not limited to prosthetic devises and pharmaceutical items.
