The county health officer and his delegated agents are authorized on behalf of the county to petition any judge of the circuit court in equity, trial magistrate, substitute trial magistrate or judge of the people’s court of the county for an order of civil commitment of chronic alcoholics as provided in article Health-General, section 8-500 of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
