3-8-1: DEFINITIONS:
For the purposes of this chapter, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them:
BUILDING CONTRACTOR: Any person, firm, company or corporation which, for a consideration, undertakes or offers to undertake or purports to have the capacity to undertake, or submits a bid to, or does himself or by or through other personnel employed by such contractor, construct, alter, repair, add to, subtract from, improve, move, wreck or demolish the whole or any part of a building or structure, or any of the appurtenances thereto, sidewalk, street or pavement for which a permit is required by village ordinance.
GENERAL BUILDING CONTRACTOR: Any building contractor who subcontracts all or any portion of a building contract to one or more building contractors or who shall himself perform more than one trade during the course of any construction, and subcontract any other trade during the course of any construction. 3-8-2: LICENSE REQUIRED; NONTRANSFERABLE:
   A.   Requirements; Exception: It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in business in the village as a building contractor or general building contractor without first having obtained a license therefor, or to violate the terms of any such license, when so granted. This section shall not be construed to require a license for the business of a plumbing contractor or electrical contractor, as these contractors are subject to state licensing provisions.
   B.   Nontransferable: No contractor's license issued under the provisions of this chapter shall be transferable. (Ord. 608, 10-8-1986)
3-8-3: APPLICATION FOR LICENSE:
   A.   Insurance Requirement:
      1.   Application for a contractor's license shall be made to the village clerk in writing, signed by the applicant if an individual, and signed by all the partners if a partnership, or by a duly authorized officer thereof if a corporation, verified by oath or affidavit and shall contain, in addition to the information required in section 3-1-3 of this title, a listing of insurance coverage then in effect and which applicant agrees to keep in force throughout the period to be covered by the license, including workers' compensation, public liability for personal injury or death, property damage and vehicle coverage, listing the insuring company, policy number, amount of coverage and expiration date.       2.   Minimum limits of insurance shall be as required by law for workers' compensation, public liability for personal injury or death, property damage and vehicle coverage, listing the insuring company policy, number, amount of coverage and expiration date. The village of Monee shall be named as additional insured and certificate holder. (Ord. 1286, 3-10-2004)
      3.   Minimum limits of insurance shall be as required by law for workers' compensation, one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00), three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000.00) for general liability and five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) property damage for both public liability and vehicle coverage.       4.   All contractors shall furnish a licensing and permit bond in an amount acceptable to the village, however in no event shall the amount be less than twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) to cover any and all work to be performed in connection with a project. (Ord. 1286, 3-10-2004)
   B.   Other Information: The application shall also contain any other information as may be required by the village president at his discretion. The procedure contained in chapter 1 of this title shall prevail when applicable. (Ord. 608, 10-8-1986; amd. Ord. 1983, 8-11-2021)
