It shall be unlawful to drive any motor vehicle on any City owned street at Canton Lake, at a speed in excess of twenty (20) miles per hour. Appropriate signs shall be posted showing such speed limits.
The fact that the speed of a vehicle does not exceed the applicable maximum speed limit does not relieve the driver from the duty to decrease speed when approaching and crossing an intersection, when approaching and going around a curve, when approaching a hillcrest, when traveling upon any narrow or winding roadway or when special hazards exist with respect to pedestrians or other traffic by reason of weather or highway conditions; and speed shall be decreased as may be necessary to avoid colliding with any person or vehicle on or entering the highway in compliance with legal requirements and the duty of all persons to use due care. Any person violating any provision of this section 8-11-22 shall be fined not less than five dollars ($5.00) or more than two hundred dollars ($200.00) for each offense. (Ord. 2032, 5-3-2011)
It shall be illegal for any individual to dump, abandon, deposit, dismantle or burn upon any public property or right-of-way, highway, park, street, parkway or waters of the City, any trash, litter, garbage, ashes, junk, junk or wrecked motor vehicles or parts thereof, or miscellaneous waste. The Canton City Council hereby establishes that only those persons who shall first pay the fees described herein and possessing a valid license may use or have contact with the boat dock and corresponding slips. The fees for said usage shall be as follows:

All of the foregoing licenses are on a first come first serve basis and are issued annually running from April 1 through March 31 of the calendar year, excepting only the daily licenses as above set forth. The daily license rates apply equally to City residents and nonresidents. The daily license is valid for not more than twenty four (24) consecutive hours from the time of its issuance. Additionally, certain licenses, including that of monthly, weekly and/or daily licenses may or may not be available for purchase and use as there are twelve (12) boat slips total available through the installed dock. The City cannot guarantee availability depending on the sales of the yearly licenses issued on a yearly basis. The license detailed herein shall be in addition to the license as required by section 8-11-2 of this chapter. The licenses issued herein may be revoked at any time for any reason deemed appropriate by the City of Canton.
(A) Limitations On Licenses:
2. All licenses shall be obtained by making application with the cashier of the Water and Sewer Department at the City building, 2 North Main Street, Canton, Illinois, or by making application with others authorized by the City Council and each person applying for a license, as aforesaid, shall present evidence to show that the boat or water craft is properly registered with the State, if required.
3. All owners and operators of boats and water craft operated on Lake Canton shall carry liability and property damage insurance on each such boat or water craft and on any personal property associated with said boat or water craft.
4. As part of purchasing and being issued a license, all licensees (those issued a license or those operating a boat or water craft under issuance of a license) individually, for itself, its heirs, administrators, executors, agents, does hereby agree that it will indemnify, defend and hold City of Canton, its agents, servants, employees, shareholders, directors, officers and attorneys harmless of and from any claims, demands, controversies, actions, rights of action, personal injury, property damage, including, but not limited to, damage or injury to persons or property relative to use of the dock and/or boat slips and any boat or water craft utilized or coming into contact with the City's dock or boat slips and personal property with same, attorney's fees, expert witness fees, court costs and/or reasonable litigation expenses arising out of or in consequence of the use of the license described herein or personal injury or property damage involving the dock, its slips or any boat or water craft and related personal property and waive any and all actions, whether legal, equitable or administrative brought, provoked, procured, caused or commenced, directly or indirectly by licensee, its agents, personal representatives, spouse, children, any Federal agency and/or entity, and any State agency and/or entity against City, its agents, servants, employees, shareholders, directors, officers and attorneys. The following rules and regulations governing usage of the Canton Lake dock and boat slips, and the same are hereby adopted by the City Council, and said rules and regulations shall have the same force and effect as ordinances validly enacted:
(A) Rules And Regulations Governing Dock And Boat Slips On Lake Canton:
1. There shall be no swimming or fishing within the vicinity of the dock or boat slips.
2. There shall be no sleeping on the boat or water craft affiliated with the dock and boat slips and there shall be no sleeping on the dock.
3. There shall be no camping on the dock.
4. No one on or near the dock and boat slips shall act in an unsafe or careless manner.
5. No one shall erect a tent or other structure on the dock or near the dock.
6. No one who is not an owner or authorized user via an issued license shall be allowed on the dock or near the boat slips. (Ord. 4137, 4-16-2019)
The lake patrol officer shall have the power to issue citations, notices to appear, sign complaints and do all other acts and deeds reasonably necessary to effectuate the requirements of this chapter. Appointment of a person or persons as lake patrol officer does not deny to any Canton police officer the power to enforce this chapter. The provisions of this chapter shall be enforced by a lake patrol officer or any other law enforcement official having proper jurisdiction. (Ord. 1791, 3-2-2004)
