INTAKE: The place where the water supply for the City is taken from the reservoir.
LAKE PATROL OFFICER: Any persons authorized by the Canton City Council to primarily enforce the rules and regulations related to the use and enjoyment of City lakes and campgrounds.
RESERVOIR, LAKE, LAKE CANTON OR CANTON LAKE: The artificial lake and water impounded therein by means of the water supply dam heretofore constructed by the City of Canton in Canton and Orion Townships, Fulton County, Illinois. (Ord. 2025, 1-4-2011)
(A) The Canton City Council hereby establishes that all persons operating boats or watercraft on Lake Canton shall first pay fees and obtain licenses as follows:

All of the foregoing licenses are annual licenses running from April 1 through March 31 of the calendar year, excepting only the daily licenses as above set forth. The daily license rates apply equally to city residents and nonresidents. The daily license is valid for not more than twenty-four (24) consecutive hours from the time of its issuance.
(B) Limitations On Licenses:
1. No license shall be issued for any boat or watercraft temporarily or permanently equipped with multiple engines, inboard/outboard (sterndrive) engines, or V-drive engines/propulsion systems.
2. No license shall be issued for any boat or watercraft equipped with sleeping facilities.
3. All licenses shall be obtained by making application with the cashier of the Water and Sewer Department at the City Building, 2 North Main Street, Canton, Illinois, or by making application with others authorized by the city council and each person applying for a license, as aforesaid, shall present evidence to show that the boat or craft is properly registered with the state, if required.
4. All owners and operators of boats and watercraft operated on Lake Canton shall carry liability and property damage insurance on each such boat or craft.
5. For purposes of this section, “city resident” is defined as all persons whose principal residence is within the corporate limits of the city; or, who own lake lot leases and who are current on lease payments and who are otherwise in full compliance with their lease provisions. The address as set forth on the applicant's driver's license shall be prima facie proof of residence.
6. Citizens of the age of sixty-five (65) or over will receive a twenty five percent (25%) discount of the boat license fees set forth in Section (A).
7. Bass clubs will receive a fifty percent (50%) discount of the daily rate license fees, set forth in Section (A), for the duration of the bass tournaments. (Ord. 2025, 1-4-2011; amd. Ord. 4191, 4-21-2020)
(A) The committee on lake, buildings and grounds shall see that the public buildings, when necessary, are properly insured, maintained in a proper state and condition of repair and shall report to the city council such improvements as they may deem necessary.
(B) The committee on lake, buildings and grounds shall have jurisdiction of all recreational and development activities on Lake Canton and the land owned by the city surrounding said lake. Said committee shall have the right to make reasonable rules and regulations regarding such activities which shall have the same effect as ordinances duly enacted by the city council.
