1-6-8: SUPERINTENDENT OF WATERWORKS:
There is hereby created in and for the city the office of superintendent of waterworks. The superintendent shall, with the approval of the city council, appoint such clerks and assistants and employ such labor as shall be necessary for the operation of the waterworks system 1 . The superintendent shall have charge of the maintenance and operation of said system, and all machinery, property and appurtenances necessarily used in and about its operation and maintenance; he shall direct the construction of all extensions to the system, all connections and service pipes; he shall have full charge of and regulate the water supply to all customers and to the fire hydrants; he shall read the meters, render and collect all bills for service from the system; he shall render a full and complete account of all the transactions of the waterworks department once each month, or more often if required by the city council, such report to be upon blanks to be provided by the city council. The superintendent shall turn over to the city treasurer at least once a day all revenues of every kind and nature derived from said waterworks system, and shall perform such other duties in relation to the operation and maintenance of said system as the city council may from time to time prescribe.
