13-101: ADOPTION OF FIRE PREVENTION CODE:
There is hereby adopted by the city for the purpose of prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous to life and property from fire or explosion, that certain code known as the BOCA national fire prevention code, including appendix chapters A and B, published by the Building Officials And Code Administrators International, Inc., being particularly the 1987 edition thereof and whole thereof; save and except such portions as are hereinafter deleted, modified or amended by this code. Not less than one copy of the fire prevention code has been and now is filed in the office of the city clerk. The fire prevention code is hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein, and from the date on which this section shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall be controlled within the legal geographic boundaries of the city. 13-102: FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU:
   A.   The BOCA national fire prevention code shall be enforced by the fire prevention bureau in the fire department of the city, which is hereby established and which shall operate under the supervision of the chief of the fire department.
   B.   The chief of the fire prevention bureau (fire marshal) shall be appointed by the chief of the fire department on the basis of examination to determine his qualifications.
   C.   The chief of the fire department may detail such members of the fire department as inspectors as shall from time to time be necessary. The chief of the fire department shall recommend to the fire marshal the employment of technical inspectors, who, when such authorization is made, shall be selected through an examination to determine their fitness for the positions. The examination shall be open to members and nonmembers of the fire department, and appointments made after examination shall be for an indefinite term with removal only for cause.
