The Chief Building Official shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by Council for a term running concurrently with that of the Mayor, commencing December 1, 1989. The Chief Building Official shall hold office until his or her successor is appointed and qualified. Nothing herein contained shall prevent the person holding such office from holding other public office, as Council may prescribe.

There is hereby established the position of Chief Building Official. The Chief Building Official shall be appointed by the Mayor pursuant to Article V, § 5, of the City Charter. The Chief Building Official shall report directly to the Director of Planning and Economic Development and shall perform such duties as may be required by the Director of Planning and Economic Development pursuant to the position’s job description on file in the Human Resource Department. The Director of Planning and Economic Development may delegate the Chief Building Official’s reporting and the determination of duties to another individual.

There is hereby established the part-time position of Back-up Chief Building Official. The Back-up Chief Building Official shall be appointed by the Mayor pursuant to Article V, § 5, of the City Charter. The Back-up Chief Building Official shall report directly to the Chief Building Official and perform such duties as required pursuant to the position’s job description on file in the Human Resource Department.
