"Authorized emergency vehicle" means vehicles of the fire department, police vehicles, and such ambulances and emergency vehicles of municipal departments, public service corporation or private ambulance companies as are designated or authorized as such by the chief of police of this city, and such ambulances and emergency vehicles of the United States and state government as may be operated on the streets of Salt Lake City. (Prior code title 46, art. 1 § 3)
"Business district" means the territory contiguous to and including a street when, within any six hundred feet (600') along such street, there are buildings in use for business or industrial purposes, including, but not limited to, hotels, banks, office buildings, railroad stations, and public buildings which occupy at least three hundred feet (300') of the frontage on one side or three hundred feet (300') collectively on both sides of the street. "Centerline" means single or double continuous or broken yellow or white line or lines marked upon the surface of a roadway to indicate each portion of the roadway allocated to traffic proceeding in two (2) opposite directions and if no line is so painted or otherwise marked, it is an imaginary line in the roadway equally distant from the edges or curbs of the roadway. "Central traffic district" means all streets and portions of streets within the areas described in section 12.104.010, "Schedule 1, Central Traffic District", of this title. (Prior code title 46, art. 1 § 8)
"Crosswalk" means: a) that part of a roadway at an intersection included within the connections of the lateral lines of the sidewalks on opposite sides of the street or highway, measured from the curbs, or in the absence of curbs, from the edges of the traversable roadway; and in the absence of a sidewalk on one side of the roadway, the part of a roadway included within the extension of the lateral lines of the sidewalk at right angles to the centerline; b) any portion of a roadway at an intersection or elsewhere distinctly indicated for pedestrian crossing by lines or other markings on the surface. "Explosives" means any chemical compound or mechanical mixture that is commonly used or intended for the purposes of producing an explosive and which contains any oxidizing and combustive units or other ingredients in such proportions, quantities or packing that an ignition by fire, by friction, by concussion, by percussion, or by detonation of any part of the compound or mixture may cause such a sudden generation of highly heated gases that the resultant gaseous pressures are capable of producing destructible effects on contiguous objects or of destroying life or limb.
