GENERAL PROVISIONS
For the purpose of this chapter, the following definition shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. Includes conductors and equipment installed for the utilization of electricity supplied for light, heat, or power; but does not include radio apparatus or equipment for the wireless reception of sound and signals, nor ordinary household appliances such as toasters, vacuum cleaners, and washing machines; and does not include apparatus, conductors, and other equipment installed for and by public utilities, including common carriers which are under the jurisdiction of the State Commerce Commission, for use in their operations as public utilities.

(A) There is hereby adopted that technical code promulgated by the National Fire Protection Association known as the National Electrical Code, most current edition, as the controlling electrical code within the city’s jurisdiction.
(B) There is also adopted the rules and regulations promulgated by the Electrical Supply Company regarding the installation, alteration, and use of electrical equipment; and the rules and regulations hereby adopted are published and filed with the State Commerce Commission.
(C) Copies of the National Electrical Code and a copy of the rules and regulations of the Electrical Supply Company as adopted by this section are on file in the offices of the City Clerk and of the Electrical Inspector.

Pursuant to the ILCS Chapter 65, Act 5, § 11-117-4, the City is authorized to operate for hire a public electric utility for the use and benefit of private consumers and users, and charge for such consumption and use.
