GENERAL PROVISIONS
A tax is hereby imposed for the purpose of fire protection in this city at the rate of.15% of the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, of all the taxable property therein for the first year in which this tax is levied in accordance with the provisions of ILCS Chapter 65, Act 5, § 11-7-1.

Whoever willfully and maliciously cuts, injures, tampers with, destroys, or defaces any fire hydrant, or any fire hose, or any fire engine, or other public or private firefighting equipment, or any apparatus appertaining to this equipment, or intentionally opens any fire hydrant without proper authorization, is guilty of a misdemeanor.

FIRE PREVENTION CODE
There is hereby adopted for the purpose of prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous to life and property from fire or explosion, that certain code known as the NFPA Life Safety Code, 2000 Edition, published by the International Code Council, Inc., as amended and the whole thereof, and from the date on which this section shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall be controlling as the official code of fire prevention within the city’s jurisdiction.

The limits referred to in § 53b of the code hereby adopted, in which storage of explosives and blasting agents is prohibited, the limits referred to in § 74a of the code hereby adopted in which storage of Class I liquids in outside aboveground tanks is prohibited, and the limits referred to in § 114 of the code hereby adopted, in which bulk storage of liquefied petroleum gas is restricted, shall be fire district number 1.
